The story so far …
As of this writing our rag-tag group of current and (mostly) former Alaskans has met ten times over the years, beginning in 2006*. We met every other year up until the 2019-2021 COVID pandemic, during which it was wisely agreed to forego having a reunion in 2020. So our first reunion after 2018 was in 2022.
The seven reunions held from 2006 through 2018 all took place in the beautiful hills near Woodacre, CA, hosted by Bob and Dorene Schiro and family on the grounds of their lovely home. The 2020 Reunion didn’t happen due to the Covid pandemic. When we started up again in 2022, after what seemed like a very long break, it was time to give the Schiros a break. from our bi-annual mass intrusion. A new venue was found in Fort Worden in Port Townsend, WA, which is where the 2022 and 2024 editions were held. Fort Worden was in many ways an excellent facility, well-suited to our purposes, so we envisioned a long relationship. For a number of reasons, following the 2024 gathering, the group decided to meet 12 months later rather than the usual 24. Accordingly, the Fort Worden facility was engaged well in advance for a 2025 reunion.
However, it was not to be. A couple of months before our planned gathering, the Fort Worden facility suddenly ended all operations in early 2025, shutting down completely and rendering our reservations worthless. Anna Plager and Dorene Schiro (and probably a few others) lept into the breach to discover and secure a suitable venue on fairly short notice. Luckily they found Anderson Lodge, a group meeting venue located about 10 miles as the crow flies southwest of the volcanic crater of Mount St. Helens! The Lodge served us very well during the 2025 edition of the Alaska Reunion which was held July 18-21, 2025, and we are just now (at this writing) on the verge of holding our 11th gathering at the Lodge
We are on the verge of holding the 11th “official” Reunion, which will occur July 16-20, 2026, at the Anderson Lodge in southern Washington State.
